There is a scene from the movie adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings – the Return of the King that replays itself in my mind. In an attempt to wipe out the race of men, the armies of the Dark Lord Sauron have advanced upon the White City of Gondor, engaging in fierce battle lasting throughout the night. Suddenly the blast of a battle horn sounds from the distance and Rohan’s army appears on the horizon. As the camera focuses on the face of the Orc commander, you see his once confident demeanor quickly change to shock and disbelief as Rohan’s army swiftly descends in defense of the White City and its inhabitants. In his stumbling backward, the Orc commander realizes the power man possesses when gathered together for a common goal.
Do you think Satan acts in a similar manner when God’s people gather in unified prayer (Acts 1:14, Acts 2:46) as we have for Bible Man and Wendy? I like to think he trembles and says, “Oh no, here they come again!” One day he will shout in defeat, “I am finished!” (Revelation 12:12, Revelation 20)
You can read Bible Man and Wendy’s story over at Apples of Gold. Satan is definitely shaking in his boots as they share God’s faithfulness, love, and healing power.
